Xsyon is a Sandbox MMORPG massively multiplayer online role-playing game developed by the independent company, Notorious Games.[1]Xsyon is set in an apocalyptic fantasy environment, closely modeled on the real world area of Lake Tahoe which spans the California and Nevada border, west of Carson City using US Geological Survey data.[2]Xsyon is a persistent world crafting sandbox game. It has been designed to have a completely player-driven economy and player-created questing system. This is unusual among MMORPGs, which often rely upon Non-player character vendors and quest givers to perform these functions. Xsyon can be found on many sandbox MMORPG game lists.[3][4][5]The game world is currently both Player versus Environment (PvE) and open Player versus Player (PvP), with players being safe from other players only in the starter area (Founder's Isle) and on their own tribe land.
Development[edit]
Xsyon entered a pre-release phase in March 2010. The official 'Prelude' phase launched on March 15, 2011.[6] The game is under continual development and a third, fully featured phase 'Xsyon: Apocalypse' is planned.[7]On 21 November 2012 a Kickstarter campaign was launched to raise funds to pay for faster development of the game.[8] The game runs a premium subscription model to access all content.
In January 2013, Xsyon entered the Steam Greenlight program, the entry program for games that eventually launch on Steam.[9] On December 29, 2014 Xsyon was officially released on Steam as an Early Access game.[10]In September 2013, Xsyon reached the top 100 of over 1300 games in the Steam Greenlight program.[11]
Setting[edit]
Xsyon provides an alternate reality fantasy setting in an apocalyptic environment.
Set in the near future, Xsyon is an apocalyptic fable, drawing its inspiration from Native American history, mythology, and prophecies of the Apocalypse. Most aspects of modern life are gone. The leaders of the new world, under the guidance of the once forgotten gods, have hidden traces of the scientific progress that led to the devastation of the earth. Modern vehicles, weapons, appliances, computers and even the books that describe these things are practically nowhere to be found.[12]The landscape of the Lake Tahoe basin provides a wilderness setting with few traces of modern civilization as a clean slate for the first settlers of Xsyon to construct their world.
The society of the past, primarily the Washoe Indians and the early pioneers live once more juxtaposed with the remnants of modern society.
Players role-play as 'Survivors', who have woken up after the Apocalypse, having forgotten all technology they knew before, and begin trying to make sense of their new surroundings.
As an explorer and settler of this new world players have many choices. They can specialize their skills or become a jack-of-all-trades. They can play as part of a tribe, socially involved with many other players, or can explore the world as a lone adventurer.
Features[edit]
The in-game world has a dynamic environment which features a realistic day-night cycle, seasonal changes and weather conditions including snow and rain.
The environment is influenced and managed by players. Natural resources in the world are affected by the actions of players. They can be harvested to extinction or preserved. Trees age, grow and can be planted and chopped down. Animals age, breed, mutate and migrate to balance their population. Xsyon features a terraforming system which allows players to sculpt the land and prepare foundations for roads and structures. Towns and buildings are player-designed and created.
Xsyon is a social game relying on a tribal political system and player-run economy.
Combat is twitch-based, featuring manually controlled left and right attacking and parrying and charged attacks.
Playable Area[edit]
The Map is divided into a number of zones in a grid, with the starter area on an island in the lake, slightly north of the center of the map. The edge of the playable world is surrounded by a toxic green mist, which will kill players which venture too far into it, and causes animals to mutate. The zones have varying Danger Levels depending on the types and amount of hostile creatures in the zone. The Danger level generally increases as the player moves away from the center of the map towards the mist.
Players claim protected areas of land by forming a tribe and placing a totem.
Tribes[edit]
In order to claim land upon which to settle and build, players must form a tribe and place a totem.
There are four categories of tribe in Xsyon, determined by the number of tribe members. A ‘homestead’ has up to 4 members, a ‘band’ has 5 to 9 members, a ‘clan’ has between 10 and 19 members, and a ‘tribe’ has more than 20 members.
A tribe’s land is square, with the totem at the center. Which each new member, the radius of the tribe land increases, up to a maximum of 197 metres. As a tribe’s size increases, the expanse gained per member decreases incrementally as the number of members grows. Depending on the category of tribe, an area of land is also reserved which will prevent other tribes from expanding into that area. A tribe cannot expand its area into another tribe’s land. If expanse is blocked by another tribe, an increase in tribe area gained by adding new members will not be awarded until the neighboring totem is removed.
If a tribe has no active members, the totem will begin to decay through various stages. Revenants spawn at totems beyond the deserted stage, haunt abandoned towns, guard ruins and are hostile NPCs that can loot and equip weapons and armor from players they kill. If players can defeat the revenants haunting a totem, they can loot the items left behind by previous players.[13]Tribe leaders have a large degree of control over their own tribe land, can create and assign ranks, and set permission as to what accesses and actions they will allow individual members to perform on tribe land, such as planting trees or gathering resources. Players from outside a tribe can not perform certain actions on a tribe's land, and a player cannot be attacked by another player on their own tribe land. However, players from outside a tribe, are able to be attacked by tribe members whilst on that tribe's own land. If a player dies, they will respawn at their own Tribe Totem.
Quests[edit]
Players can create Quests, listed on tribal totems for other players to perform. These can be used as a way of trading for items whilst players are offline. Three different types of quests are available: Collect, Hunt and Craft. As well as providing an exchange of goods, the quests also generate 'Experience Points' for both parties. The amount of experience gained depends upon the quantity and rarity of quest goals and difficulty of travel in order to attain and complete the quest.
Events[edit]
Xsyon is supported by a team of 'Guides' that assists players and run regular weekend events. Events involve players in a range of contests and activities including PvP tournaments, scavenger hunts, obstacle courses and fashion shows.[14]

I've played for almost 2 years (with breaks).Xsyon is a charming survival sandbox and definitely worth a gander, especially since you can experience alot of the game as a f2p (free to play). Character progression depends on alot of grinding, so grindaholics will find this game more rewarding than others. While Xsyon is not very intuitive when it comes to figuring out how to do things, I rarely see questions unanswered in global chat.In a nutshell, I find this game lacking. I've spend alot of time grinding many stats and skills to 100.0 (to supply myself the best of the best). With a scarce active community and a low ratio of new players sticking around for long, the majority content themselves with self sufficiency when it comes to crafted goods (most trade comes when looking for specific scavenged recipes to craft tools and buildings). As such, I never found any ground for worthwhile trading. This also means that item value is a vague thing at best.
STRONGLY DO NOT RECOMMEND YOU INVEST ANY MONEY INTO THIS GAME.Extremely low population and lack of development. It had 1 'major' update in 3 years which was a 30mb 'Farming and Cooking' update which is a little more than basic inventory icons added to a pre-existing formula. They have raised the subscription price to fleace as much money from Steam as possible once it's release here, before it's seen to be a flop.Stay away and invest your money into something newer, with more content and a responsive/active development team.
Because they are things this game doesn't have. PART 3either, because that is a minor population, that is your current population.
Look at what many of us players are posting. The fact is, pay 2 play is basically dead. Its really just a quick cash grab for new, polished corporately backed games to rake in some quick cash, before going free2play. They DO NOT have aspirations of keeping on to pay to play.they suspect it to fail, they plan on it. Its merely a way to earn quick cash for overlyhyped games. Hype it up enough, and ppl will throw money at you. But when that hype dies down.BOOM free 2 play, which works smoothly for them, because they had already planned on this happening.
They were prepared. The free version was likely already made at the time the pay to play opened up.
The future is micro shops, cosmetics (if you have good graphics in your game.) advantages, and subscription based benefits such as exp, gold, more inventory space, etc. Good luck, and hope things work out well for you. PART 2made out of money from family guy online mmo.) Let me give you a few bullet points to think on:1. People like benefits. Especially those who like to feel superior to others.2. People like supporting their favorite games.
Especially when they get something out of it.3. 'I,ll quit if its pay to win' is a lie. See this video: from ben cousins who implemented pay to win on battlefield heroes. (They were hired to make free2play profitable and successful at the same time.)4. Ghost Towns KILL games.
That is why most p2p games go free2play, they need popluation. No one wants to make a mmo that has no one in it.
Or to encounter the same freaking people every time because theres only 66 people in your world.I do hope you read this Mr. Davis, as this game looks like it can really go places.
Really unique, but you need to take a step back, and look at your game from the standpoint as a player. Not a hardcore fanboy player. PART 1.Game looks amazing, but I don't think it will do too well due to population. Judging by the restrictions I have read, this game won't really gain anything from steam. Infact, it may get a damaged reputation even. Players are going to see the videos, get on, and then start a massive rant about 'omg this game is crap, cash grab! Cash grab!, 'glorified demo', 'steam lies to us again', that kind of garbage: Why is this damaging?
If the developer DOES choose to change the way free2play goes about for his game, it will be too late. All we will remember is the terrible taste it left in our mouth, and much like the hot stove scenerio, we won't try to touch it again. You need players, badly, but you don't seem to understand the allure of 'benefits' or 'advantages'.
Most games use this system now. They allow free players to experience the full extent of the game, but offer those with cash benefits that make them feel like their wearing suits of gold (or quite literally a hat. I played this game about 6 months ago. Put in a LOT of hours:) For a survival, sandbox experience, it is really great. The only problem I see with the game now is the low population. That was a killer for me.
I laugh at the new PvE server. PvP was never a problem, all you had to do was run away lol!If you are considering this game here are some things to think about. If you like Minecraft, Swg Pre-CU, Perfect World International(WIth No Cash Shop), Then you might like this game. The reason I mention those 3 games are as follows:Mincraft- Survival and building. There is plenty of that in Xsyon.
Complete with food and water.SWG and PWI- Both of those games have fantastic player interdependency. Meaning that the developers came up with fantastic, creative and fun ways to force player interaction! UPDATE #2-After the free game play period, a monthly fee of $9.99 per month is required.Reduced fees are available for Quarterly, Biannual and Yearly orders. Please add a recurring subscription or pre-paid time to extend your game play period. You much also first purchase a gametime of $29.99 which will include the first month of game play. After that, you will need to pay $9.99 per month to continue playing. There is a 'Set Time Period' to play for free. Then users have to pay a subscription.Just FYI Info straight from their website. Game has serious limitations., this is going to be a Pay to Play game. Just FYI.-Free Play includes the following limits:Players without paid Citizen Game Account access:Players cannot start new TribesPlayers cannot join new Tribe chartersPlayers can join tribes but they do not add to the tribe sizeSkills are effectively limited to 30Players cannot use gained experience to level upPlayers with Citizen Game Account access without a paid Monthly subscription:Skills are effectively limited to 30Players cannot use gained experience to level up.
Sadly i would also downvote Xsyon, put in many hours and bought the Pre Launch edition to help support it on its way, Development is slow to a crawl client is chunky needs massive optimization, and it yes, its been 'Launching' several times over, put in my money into the game and feel consideribly ripped off, Great Potential in the game, but dev team needs some serious workers. Be warey about spending the money guys, Better free stuff on market atm;)saaaw this on greenlight and had to respond, im in boat with Vazzaroth, very unsatisfied customer for what i paid.
Probabily won't return.
